Off Season is for Outings

Cooler fall and winter weather offers its own coastal treats, even as the ocean gets too chilly for a dip. Paddling and boating are pleasant on sunny, cool mornings, and our quaint coastal towns entice locals as tourist traffic eases. We recommend these outings this time of year:

  • Southport and the Brunswick Islands: enjoy history, casual dining featuring local seafood, and plenty of shopping
  • Wrightsville Beach: try a brisk walk around the "Loop," then stop in any of the bars or restaurants along, the strip, pickup local specialities at Roberts Market
  • Historic Downtown Wilmington: sign up for any number of historic home tours, do your holiday shopping at the boutiques along Third and Market Streets, and relax in one of the restaurants with a view of the Cape Fear River to enjoy a magnificent North Carolina sunset
