According to the Insurance Journal, only 35% of North Carolina homes in the area flooded by Hurricanes Florence and Michael were covered by national flood insurance. Millions of homes were damaged by flood waters in North and South Carolina; because homeowners policies do not assist with remediation or recovery of property lost in floods, hundreds, if not thousands, of families have lost everything.

“In the coming days, people whose houses have been damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael - many of whom are under-insured or uninsured - will face the wrenching decision of paying for temporary housing or paying their mortgage,” says Broker/Realtor Kirk Pugh, President of KBT Realty Group. “Every day, I get questions from devastated homeowners looking for reliable, responsible information that will help them make the best decisions about preserving whatever equity they have left in their homes. Hundreds of people in our community are looking at months of storm remediation, but they also need to start the process of financial remediation.”

What a Real Estate Firm Can Do to Help

Confronted with a constant stream of questions from clients, neighbors, and friends, Pugh was driven to present a advice, resources, and comfort to the broader Wilmington NC community.

Pugh rallied his business network to organize a Hurricane Financial Remediation Seminar to address disaster relief beyond that offered by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Small Business Administration (SBA), and other governmental organizations. The timing and amount of these sources of assistance is uncertain, and many homeowners are facing sustained financial hardship.

“Our intent is to provide free, compassionate advice that will help homeowners toward the best possible financial recovery from Hurricanes Florence and Michael,” says Pugh. “Disaster victims deserve real answers to real questions. Pulling together these expert resources is a concrete way that KBT Realty Group can contribute to rebuilding the lives of people from the hardest hit areas surrounding Wilmington, the city, and our beach communities.”

The KBT Realty Group in Association with Keller Williams Realty will host an informational seminar to provide information and financial options to homeowners on the decisions they are confronting in the aftermath of these two hurricanes.

A panel of experts in a variety of disciplines will attend as a resource for the community. The objective is to provide a free forum for residents to get clear, trustworthy, qualified information.
