Few things in life are more exciting, and more life-altering, than buying a new home. Whether you are a first time homebuyer, or selling a home for one that is larger, smaller, or in a different location, home buying is a major event.

Before you jump all the way into 2024 with the intention of becoming a new homebuyer, ponder these resolutions.

"I resolve to master the art of negotiation when buying a home. If I can haggle over the price of my morning coffee, I can certainly sharpen my skills for the biggest purchase of my life."

"In 2024, I will no longer check the Zestimate of my current home every single day."

"In the spirit of being more energy-efficient, I vow to find the elusive 'off' switch for all those phantom lights that seem to turn on by themselves. Maybe I'll discover a secret room in the process."

"I promise to resist the urge to become a real estate expert overnight. Just because I've binge-watched a few episodes of house hunting shows doesn't mean I should start my own reality series titled 'The Adventures of a Novice Homebuyer.'"

"This year, I'm committing to keeping my Pinterest boards of dream homes in check. It's time to realize that my budget might not stretch to accommodate that private island-inspired backyard complete with a petting zoo."

"I resolve to embrace imperfections in my future home, realizing that not every scratch on the floor is a potential crime scene or the plot of a murder mystery novel waiting to be uncovered."

"In the quest for the perfect home, I will resist the temptation to calculate the walking distance to the nearest coffee shop before checking if the bathroom has a working flush."

"I vow to learn the language of real estate listings and decipher phrases like 'cozy' (small but charming) and 'fixer-upper' (brace yourself for a DIY marathon)."

"This year, I'll resist the urge to peek into the medicine cabinet during open houses. After all, my future home's choice of pain relievers is none of my business."

"I promise to take regular breaks from online property listings to maintain my sanity. It's essential to remember that there is life beyond virtual house tours, and not every floor plan must be dissected like a complex puzzle."

"I resolve to finally figure out what that mysterious switch in the hallway does. Maybe it's a secret passage to Narnia, or maybe it's just been turning off the neighbor's TV for years."

"This year, I solemnly swear to stop talking to my houseplants as if they're my therapist. They've heard enough about my home search issues, and frankly, they're not very good at giving advice."

"I'm determined to embrace my inner handyman. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the manual for assembling that new furniture must be a Shakespearean epic. To be or not to be... able to assemble a bookshelf, that is the question."

"In 2024, I vow to maintain order in my new kitchen cabinets. No more surprise attacks from Tupperware avalanches, and I will find the matching lid for every container before I pack them... or at least attempt to create a new and exciting game of mismatched Tupperware Jenga."

"I resolve to stop blaming the creaky floors for my midnight snacks escapades. If the snacks keep disappearing, it's not because the house is hungry; it's probably just me, sleepwalking my way to the fridge."

"This year, I will conquer my fear of dark closets and crawlspaces. I've heard rumors of a mystical place where lost socks reunite and form secret societies. It's time to face the dark abyss and uncover the truth behind the missing sock phenomenon."

"I promise to become a true master of the thermostat in my new home, capable of navigating its buttons and dials with the finesse of a concert pianist. No more living in a perpetual state of 'Is it too hot, or is it too cold?' I shall find the elusive perfect temperature and bask in its glory."
