What's Up: Trees for Fall Planting

Fall is a great time to plant trees in southeastern North Carolina. Cooler nights and temperate days give trees time to settle in and establish roots before the spring growing season. Trees that you can plant now in the Cape Fear region:

Red maple
River birch
Eastern redbud
Eastern redcedar
Southern magnolia
American sycamore
Bald cypress
Leyland cypress

The New Hanover County Arboretum will host "Trees for Coastal Fall Color," on November 3, at 6206 Oleander Drive. Learn which native trees are best to plant for color in your yard. You can book tickets online.
