Reap the Bounty of Cape Fear's Farmers' Markets

One of the most anticipated arrivals of summer are the Cape Fear area's bountiful farmers' markets. With a richly varied offering of locally grown vegetables and fruits - not to mention unique farm-fresh food products like preserves, hot sauces, sausages, and pickles - farmers converge on markets every day of the week in different locations throughout growing season. Some markets wrap up in mid- to late August, and the larger markets run through late November, so be sure to double check dates.

Local shoppers look for North Carolina-grown produce like cantaloupe, peaches, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, squash, and cabbage. Of course, there is a wide selection of other fruit and vegetables depending upon the time of the growing season. Watch for fresh berries during the short window of late May to mid-June, and a wide variety of pie and decorative pumpkins in early Fall. Farmers' market followers know where to find everything from microgreens to kombucha and North Carolina wines ...

House Hunting with KBT: What We Love About 825 Merestone

Charles Swain, Broker/Realtor, shares what he loves about the three bedroom, five bathroom, 2,945 square foot home at 825 Merestone Drive, in Winnabow, North Carolina.

Which room do you love the most?

The room I love the most is the kitchen. This is a home chef's dream, with gorgeous Italian marble countertops and a gas stove. Entertain around the huge island with a coveted, contemporary open concept design.

What is unique about this property?

Something very unique about this property is that it has a full bath in the garage with a shower! What a treat when you come home from the beach, or after a sweaty afternoon in the garden or on the golf course. There are four-and-a-half bathrooms here, so there will never be a line for the bathroom. And, that makes this home very comfortable for entertaining overnight guests; when the kids come for the holidays, no one will have bathroom aggravations.

Plus, the garage is pristine. There is plenty of space to ...

What is unique about this property?

In real estate, we always say it’s all about location – location – location! Well, this location cannot be beat – located on a quiet cul-de-sac in a lovely coastal woodlands setting – the views here simply can’t be beat anywhere else in this community. Meet the Broker: Johna Herbinger

Meet Johna Herbinger, Broker Realtor with KBT Realty in Wilmington NC. Johna moved to the Topsail Island Beach area a year ago, from New York state. She and her family wanted to be near the water, and chose Surf City because it was the closest she could get without being directly on the beach.

She often walks the beach before sunrise. Every Wednesday morning, she volunteers with the Topsail Turtle Project, walking one mile of beach looking for turtle nests during nesting season.

Johna points out that Realtor.com recently posted an article that states Topsail Island is one of the most affordable beach communities in the United States. The name "Topsail" actually came from the pirates who used to hide behind the island on their ships, waiting to see the tops of the sails of ships to attack for riches.

Johna sells real estate from Hampstead south to Holden Beach: the whole southeastern North Carolina coast. She is happy to introduce prospective buyers to t ...

Meet the Broker: Rebecca Robbins

Meet Rebecca Robbins, Broker, Realtor with the KBT Realty Group, and her dog Mazy. Rebecca is new to the KBT Team in Wilmington NC.

Rebecca loves Wilmington, and the Cape Fear area's dog-friendly attributes a are high on the list of reasons she chooses to live here. She tries to take Mazy with her everywhere she goes. From parks, outdoor restaurants, beer gardens, farmers' markets, and even many retail stores, options for dog owners are numerous.

One of Rebecca's favorite places to walk with Mazy is Smith Creek Park, off Gordon Road. Smith Creek Park offers a beautiful dog-friendly walking trail. In the summer, the park trail is particularly inviting in the evening when the temperature has cooled a bit and the sun is ready to set. Smith Creek Park is near Murrayville, and Rebecca loves showing clients homes that any dog would approve of.

Originally from Durham NC, Rebecca moved to Wilmington in 2008 to go to college and fell in love with city. She has been in real estate ...
