Meet the Broker: Nancy Schappell, KBT Realty Group





Hey, I'm Nancy Schappell with KBT Realty Group. Just wanted to introduce myself and give you a little hint about the Wilmington area.

I've moved here recently, but I've been a Realtor for over 16 years. Love this area, and I love the master plan communities. I live in one, it's Brunswick Forest.

So here's what I love about Wilmington. First of all, I come from Pennsylvania, and we really just got tired of the winters. And so we started to make a plan as to where we were going to spend the next chapter of our lives. And we started south and worked our way up. And when we hit Wilmington, we felt like we found home. It wasn't a huge city. It was a city that just spoke to us. We loved the fact that it was on the water. We love the fact that it's 15 minutes, ten minutes to the beach. We loved all of the things that it offered. Good food, good culture, close to water. It was just the perfect place for us.

Funny story. I ran my husband's chiropractic practice for a really long time, and we changed from sole proprietor to a corporation. And our attorney said, "You know, Nancy, if something happens to him, you can't do this."

And I thought, "Hmmm. I'm in trouble." So I needed to find something that I could do to support myself. And real estate was ideal for me because I could still help him. But then when my real estate career took off, we hired somebody and I never looked back. It was the best thing that ever happened to me because I love what I do. I never feel like I work. I love the whole concept from start to finish, helping people, whether it's a first time home buyer or a downsizer or someone like myself looking for the next chapter of their lives.

They call me a matchmaker. And, I think that's true because I listen to what your goals are, whether you're a seller and need to sell fast because you need to go take care of an aging parent or that you need to get the most out of your house because you're going to that next chapter or because you're getting relocated. And I find out what your goals are and I make that happen. And if you're a buyer, I listen to what your needs are and what you're really looking for. And then we go out and find it.

So I get really upset if I call one of my clients and they say, "Who's this?" If you delete my number, I'm not a fan!

I talk to my clients all the time. They call me if they need a trade, whether it's an electrician or a plumber, or they're thinking about doing a remodel. They really trust not only me, but my stable of tradesmen that I have. And I love helping people have a vision and work through what a house could be or what a remodel will look like. So it's not just the sale of the house, it's far past that. It is a long term relationship.

Key, for people who have clients that are thinking about their next chapter, they can call me because they know that I've done the process. I live here. I understand the area. I know where to take them to kind of shorten the learning curve.

What's great about having been a Realtor in Pennsylvania: I have all these relationships with other Realtors. So when they have someone who's looking to relocate to find a warmer climate, they can call me and know that their clients are going to be well taken care of.
