What's Up | Celebrating the New Year in the Cape Fear


In addition to a number of local bars, breweries, clubs and restaurants offering New Year's Eve celebrations - many of which may sold out - we recommend:

Burgaw Blueberry Drop with Journey tribute band, Trial By Fire. Starts at 6pm

Pleasure Island "Island of Lights" Celebration, Kure Beach. Starts at 9pm. Get information.

New Year's Eve Pickle Drop at the University of Mount Olive in front of the Kornegay Area. Starts at 7pm with fireworks following and free pickles courtesy of Mt. Olive Pickle company.

New Year's Noon! at the Children's Museum of Wilmington, 116 Orange Street, 9am to noon. Art projects and juice toast.


State of the Real Estate Market | KBT's Year End Message

"We are optimistic about the market in the coming year, and we are looking forward to the holidays," says Kirk Pugh in his end-of-year wrap up.

"What's really encouraging is that homeowners today have the highest equity that they have had in their homes in 26 years. Average loan-to-value of a home today across the board is only 32%, which means there's a lot of money sitting in equity in a lot of houses across the country.The dreaded "I word" - inventory - continues to be the problem. Existing home inventory available for sale is fewer than a million homes, the lowest in about 30 years. Positively, though, single family starts are averaging about 1100 per week across the country."

Kure Beach is the second city on Pleasure Island, which is the coastal barrier island in southeastern North Carolina, just south of the City of Wilmington. Kure Beach is nestled between Carolina Beach on the north end of Pleasure Island, and Fort Fisher on the island's southern tip.
