Meet Charles Swain, Broker/Realtor® with KBT Realty Group - Keller Williams INNOVATE. Charles grew up in Wilmington North Carolina, and is one of the original team members on with KBT Realty.
This is where I grew up, out here, fishing, boating, clamming, crabbing, just about anything you can think of on the creek.
Hi. I'm Charles Swain from KBT Realty Group with Keller Williams Innovate. Just to tell you a little bit about myself, I've been in Wilmington for over 50 years. Moved to Wilmington when I was three years old, from Southport, which is only like 40-45 minutes from here. Grew up in the Ogden area, which is the north side of Wilmington - some would consider that - and just grew up with the creek in our backyard. Just anything that involves the seafood life and the coastal life, and just great memories of growing up as a kid and a teenager doing all that stuff and boating all the time with friends. And if we weren't here, we were at the beaches, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, wherever the friends wanted to go, that's where I was going. So just had a good time growing up in this area.
I actually did a little bit of community college here in Wilmington, and then that's when I decided I wanted to go out on my own and open up my business. But, yeah, I went to grade school with Becky Brown and Fred Teachey, which Fred's on the team as well, and we've just been lifelong friends.
Well, a friend of mine, longtime friend Becky Brown, was talking to me one time. I owned my own business for 31 years here in Wilmington, and she was a client of mine, and she was talking to me several times about real estate and it's over a few years and the time just wasn't right until it was and then decided to get my license and join up with KBT Realty Group. And I've been with them for about six and a half years now and love it.
My dad was a Realtor® and his actual real estate office was where my business was for 31 years. It's just kind of funny that I was still doing that business for a while, while I was doing real estate when I was first getting started. So I was actually doing real estate in the same building that my dad was doing real estate back in the early 70s before it came out in all the magazines that Wilmington was the place to be. So we have that in our family history of real estate.
And the business that I had before, it was constant flow of people coming in and out the door and sales. I just love working with people more on an individual basis, helping them find the perfect dream home, or helping someone that needs to get out of their home to move on with a different life perspective. Most of my clients are people that I've known, family, friends. Obviously I was able to utilize my customer base from my previous business for 31 years, so that's a lot of clients from that business. My family has taught me: you treat others the way you want to be treated. And I've just always believed in that and just the best service that you can give, it's going to come back ten times fold.
We have a mountain home and we enjoy going up there. It's more like a work-cation because when you're not there, things are still growing and need to be cut and trimmed and all that good stuff. But we have a good time when we go up to the mountains and it's just nice to be able to have the flexibility of the mountains and the ocean and the beaches and everything. So yeah, well, this is just one small one right here behind me.
I mean, look, it's beautiful. I mean, all the things that you can do, all the different beaches, there are so many things to do. You've also got the river, you've got the Battleship, you've got so many things just to see. You've got downtown Wilmington, just so much history.
