Hampstead North Carolina Weather
Hampstead residents enjoy weather that is pretty typical of southeastern coastal North Carolina. Summers are hot and humid. Winters are short, cold, and windy, with plenty of pleasant 50-60 degree days scattered throughout December and February. The temperature ranges from 38 degrees to 88 degrees, and rarely falls low enough for snowfall. In the summer, a very hot day hovers at the top of the 90s, but ocean breezes make it tolerable.
Hampstead Close-up: Recreation & Attractions
Hampstead was named for Hampstead England. The area is rich with local history; the Belvidere Plantation House is on the National Register of Historic Places. Poplar Grove Plantation was built in 1850 and is also on the National Register. Hampstead started as a small fishing village, has a claim to fame because George Washington stayed at a local public house on his 1791 tour of the South, and was famous for pirate incursions at Topsail Sound. George Washington's stay is commemorated with an Oak Tree marker in the town.

Castle Bay Golf Course is a Scottish links-style 18-hole championship course, located just off US 17, and Hampstead residents take advantage of this great playing course without having to drive south to Brunswick County or the golf-course rich Myrtle Beach area. Castle Bay was designed by Randy Blanton and opened in 1999.
A cool spot in Hampstead for hanging out or stocking up is Leaf & Barrel Provision Co. It used to be a convenience mart, and was transformed into a friendly craft beer and fine wine bottle shop, with a collection of chairs and sofas for relaxing while you sip. It's dog-friendly, family-friendly, and a great place to meet your fellow Hampstead residents.

Hampstead is spread along U.S. 17, so there isn't a "walkable" downtown, but the stores, restaurants, and recreation that the community offers make it a great place for everyone, from families with small children, to singles and professionals who want easy access to downtown Wilmington or the military bases in Jacksonville.

You can easily drive through Hampstead and curse the traffic on 17, however if you look while you are in that parking lot there are some hidden gems in Hampstead.
It is a very family friendly area with Kiwani Park being a huge draw to the residents. Many a birthday party can be seen under the pavilions and they recently updated all the equipment.
If you are looking for food Jebby's on 17 has a great menu and a good local vibe. Sushi Gem is just that - a GEM in the strip mall near the Lowes Grocery Store. THE ITALIAN MARKET IS A MUST, the owner Jimmy is everyone's best friend and there is not one thing on the menu you will regret... besides the calorie count LOL.
Hampstead has some GREAT consignment shops:
- Have or Have Not
- Orange Blossom
- Miss Carlas Furniture
- Our Yard Sale (located in a Hampstead staple the DDT Outlet)
- Safe Haven (part of their proceeds go to Domestic Violence shelters)
Hampstead also has so many great ways to see the ICWW, with restaurants like Sailfish or just by finding your way through one of the many neighborhoods with water access.
Hampstead is the town that we all used to pass through to get to the beach, but it has grown to be one of the most sought after towns with its great school ratings and small town family community feel.
