December 2021 Around the Azalea Coast | events and community news in Southeastern Coastal North Carolina
Updates and Happenings from beautiful Southeastern Coastal North Carolina.
"At Christmas, all roads lead home."
What's Up | Our Holiday Traditions
We love taking in all the area Christmas lights! Every year, we make certain not to miss Lake Lindas Christmas Lights in Hampstead, and Airlie Gardens in Wilmington. The Airlie Garden Christmas celebration sells out early every year, so if you missed getting your tickets this year, make sure to note it for next year. We also love Wilmington Christmas Lights, and you can find the details at www.wilmingtonchristmaslights.com. There is a Facebook page for the Wilmington lights events, too.
When I lived in downtown Wilmington,I made sure to do my evening walks down Second Street, between Nun and Ann. The entire row of Victorian homes are light up, with sparkling ornaments hanging in the trees. It's absolutely magical. This year my family made the day-trip to Greenbrook Gardens, in Murrells Inlet South Carolina. The 9100 acre property features stunning sculptures, in themed gardens that are dramatically light for the season. One of the things about the Cape Fear that is wonderful are the many attractions and activities within an hour or two drive. Thrifting and treasure hunting is awesome this time of year. A few years ago, I found a beautiful trifle bowl at the Rescue Mission thrift shop on 4th and Castle Streets, so every year, I now make a proper English trifle for Christmas dessert.
Lake Linda's Lights in Hampstead is a wonderful holiday display to check out. We drive through every
Many holiday events and traditions in Kure Beach and Carolina Beach. On December 4th, there is the Carolina Beach Holiday Market at Carolina Beach Lake Park, with local artists and vendors set up selling holiday crafts etc. The same evening, beginning at 6:00pm, there is the Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla that starts at the marina and sail to Snow's Cut and back to the marina. There is great viewing at Stoked Restaurant. Get your reservation now! One of our favorites is to visit the light display at the Carolina Beach Lake Park. We bundle up and take the dog for a nice walk and we ALWAYS pose in front of the tin soldier light display for our annual holiday photo. For something new this year, Kure Beach is having the Holiday Whoobie Whatty on December 17th from 5:30-7:30 pm. It will start with the movie viewing of the 2000 version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and there will be face painting, cookie decorating and photos with The Grinch. Each year, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach alternate the New Year's Eve celebration. This year, Kure Beach is hosting and the festivities start at 9:00 pm. It is always a great time!
I Have a Question! | What are Comparable Sales?
Realtors often talk in "alphabet soup" and sometimes an agent mentions a "CMA." This stands for comparable market analysis or comparative market analysis.
We look at similar properties that have sold recently, what the sold cost per square foot was, and how another property compares. The trick in today's market is giving our professional opinion on what the Real Estate market is saying a property is worth.
