Front Street in historic downtown Wilmington is now open for street dining, with local restaurants observing social distancing with a temporary event "Downtown Alive," to help restaurants survive during COVID-19 restrictions. Front Street, from Market to Chestnut and Market to Dock, and Princess Street from Front to Second Street will close to car traffic starting at 5:30pm on Thursdays and Friday evenings. Closures will continue on Saturdays and Sundays, until after Labor Day. Unless dining, visitors must comply with Governor's orders to wear a face covering.
Area fireworks have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. If you are planning your own fireworks celebration, note that in North Carolina it is legal to use sparklers, snakes or worms, smoke bombs, fountains, and noisemakers like poppers. It is not legal to set off Roman candles, bottle rockets, firecrackers, spinners, or anything that shoots into the air.
Please be safe, be considerate of your neighbors, and have a great Fourth of July.
