Oct 12 6 pm Pumpkin Palooza | New Hanover County Arboretum and NC Cooperative Extension Office present a magical evening stroll through the grounds to enjoy intricately designed pumpkins. $5 per person, kids under 2 are free.
Oct 12 10 am Fire in the Pines Festival | Halyburton Park's family festival is a fun, free day learning about the environment and our "fire forests." The day ends with a North Carolina Forest Service controlled burn in the pine forest.

New Faces | Meet Mary Ellen Slugg
Mary Ellen Slugg joins the KBT Realty Group team as Director of Operations.
“We are super excited to welcome Mary Ellen to the KBT Realty Group where her skill and expertise will help us sharpen our interactions with the buyers and sellers we serve,” says Broker/Realtor Kirk Pugh, president of KBT Realty Group.
Slugg most recently sharpened her operations management skills as office manager at Hutchens Law Firm. She practiced law for more than 20 years in Clifton, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC, specializing in general law with a strong emphasis on residential and commercial real estate transactions. She is currently a licensed attorney in the state of Virginia.
She earned a B.S. in Public Administration and her law degree from George Mason University.
“My dream since I was young was to call the beach my home,” Mary Ellen says. “I discovered Kure Beach in 2003 and instantly fell in love. In 2014, I made the leap and moved to Kure Beach permanently. I was lucky to have my dream come true. My life philosophy is an individual should always give back to their tribe and help it grow and flourish, to assist in realizing its goals and dreams.”
