Accountability and Being Your Own Boss in Real Estate: There's a Path For That



Why do people get into real estate and what do they need to succeed?


In this episode of "There's a Path for That," Teri Moylan tackles that question, from her personal experience, and as a Growth Director at KBT Realty Group, and a real estate coach. 
Teri went into real estate because she wanted to get her life back. She was working in a corporate position, putting in too many hours during the week, and didn't have balance or time to spend on herself. Real estate seemed to offer her the opportunity to get her life back by being her own boss. The problem with that, she found, is that many people go into business for themselves because they like the idea of being their own boss, but don't really know how to be their own boss.

Accountability and Goal Setting


Most people who are running major corporations have some kind of accountability system in place. They may be a CEO who is help accountable by a board of directors. If you are going into real estate because you want to be your own boss, you must ask yourself who stands to lose if you aren't holding yourself accountable. That's the person to whom you must be accountable. It could be to yourself. It could be to your family. It could be the agents on your team.

Speaking of accountability and teams, that's the function that Teri performs every day at KBT Realty Group. She helps agents on the team - each with unique goals specific to themselves - identify both goals and individual accountability. She coaches agents into understanding how they are going to reach their goals and be accountable.

If you don't have steps in place to be accountable, it might be a great time for you to consider whether you need to be in a team environment that provides that resource to you. You might have to reconsider the team that you are currently in and make sure that the points of accountability are working for you.
